PrintHand tinted B&W image printed on Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta Satin paper, signed and numbered by the photographer.
Available for the first time from NJG, a hand tinted image of a B&W original ‘Borderline’ production still. Photographed in Los Angeles CA on February 12, 1984. This hand coloured image is printed on Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta Satin paper. Signed and numbered by Andrew Caulfield.
On February 9th 1984, Andrew Caulfield received a call from his friend Mary Lambert asking if he would like to be involved in a music video she was about to direct. Mary was part of a close-knit group of artists and musicians living in LA, who were into the punk music scene and Japanese illustration and comic book art, downtown painting studios, storefront artist’s lofts in Venice Beach and psychedelic trips to the desert and the whole new world of special effects cinema. “When Borderline fell into my lap, I called on my crew to help. At last, a paying gig” – Mary Lambert.
Mary needed a studio still portrait shoot, production stills, as well as some 2nd camera film work. Andrew had worked with Mary on various projects over several years and agreed to the project. The script Mary wrote called for photos of Madonna wearing the anti-fashion garb, staged around three concepts: Hard, Soft and Gloss. All would be combined in an effort to build a “model’s portfolio” to be used as props. Only three of the photographs made it into the final video.
